Southampton came from behind to secure their first win of the season at the expense of Stoke. Ex-Saints forward Ricardo Fuller got on the end of Mamady Sidibe's flick to gave Stoke an early lead, but Andrew Surman's fine strike levelled matters.
A Grzegorz Rasiak header put Saints ahead and four minutes later John Viafara looked to have sealed the win.
But they were left hanging on when a Jon Parkin header made the score3-2 with eight minutes to go.
Southampton boss George Burley on the possible exit of striker Kenwyne Jones:
"I don't want to lose Kenwyne, but sometimes other issues take these things out of your hands. "It has been a difficult time for the club during the last couple of months, but I feel we are turning the corner.
"What I saw today was encouraging for the future."
Stoke manager Tony Pulis:
"I have no complaints. I was pleased that the players kept going so well. "This is a new group of players whom we have had to get together quickly, but they have done really well.
"Southampton might have lost their first three games, but they are in a false position. I'm sure they'll be in the top six by the end of the season."
