Basement side Leeds were dealt another blow to their survival hopes with defeat to promotion-chasing Wolves. Michael Kightly scored the only goal of the game 14 minutes from time when he cut in and fired home inside the penalty area.
Wanderers could have had more with centre-half Rob Edwards twice heading on to the Leeds woodwork.
Leeds best chance came near the end of the match when Wolves keeper Matt Murray tipped over from Eddie Lewis.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy:
"Forget about these people saying we are dark horses for promotion or coming up on the rails.
"We are contenders for promotion. We are out of the play-offs on goal difference and only four points off top of the league.
"I think the players are starting to understand how intense this season is going to get."
Leeds assistant boss Gustavo Poyet:
"We are running out of games and it is now or never.
"If we do not start getting it right soon survival will be impossible.
"We have not scored a goal in our last three games. That tells me when the final pass or the final cross comes in we are not making the right decisions."
