Purse's two goals were not enough for a Cardiff win |
Ipswich twice came from behind to cancel out Darren Purse's brace for Cardiff and seal a welcome point. The Bluebirds' four-game goal drought ended after three minutes as captain Purse's knee connected with Kevin McNaughton's cross from six yards out.
Macken poked in from a Gary Roberts corner after the break, but Jason De Vos fouled Steven Thompson to give Purse his second goal from the spot.
Chris Gunter then fouled Roberts to concede a penalty, Roberts converting.
Cardiff manager Dave Jones:
"It was a tale of two penalties that weren't. "I don't think ours was a penalty and, after seeing it again, I don't believe they should have been awarded one either. Maybe the referee was looking to even things out.
"We just have to dog it from now until January because we are down to the bare bones.
"It was always going to be nervy as we are not playing well, so we have to work that much harder on the training field.
"Hopefully we can hang on until the transfer window opens when I might be able to bring a few players in."
Ipswich manager Jim Magilton:
"We played some great football, created loads of chances, and fully deserved a point. "We started slowly and were a bit scrappy to begin with but we came out in the second half to equalise fairly quickly.
"Then the referee made a shocking decision to award them a penalty and we had to come from behind once again.
"It would have been a travesty if we had come away with nothing after that performance."
