Hull breathed new life into their survival bid with a stunning home victory against faltering Cardiff. The Tigers were two up in nine minutes, Damien Delaney scoring a rebound and Dean Marney hitting a ferocious drive.
Craig Fagan beat the offside trap to put Hull 3-0 up, but Michael Chopra's cool right-foot shot gave Cardiff hope.
But a fumble from Cardiff keeper Neil Alexander let in Michael Bridges for Hull's fourth, who could even afford to miss a late Steve McPhee penalty.
Hull caretaker manager Phil Brown:
"If the chairman makes the right decision then Hull City will get out of this situation we're in.
"I'd like to be involved and if I continue to win football matches then I'll give myself a better chance.
"It was a performance we asked for last week at Plymouth, when we lost 1-0, but we got the early goals and kicked on."
Cardiff manager Dave Jones:
"We are going through a patch where you are looking for your characters to come to the forefront - but they didn't do that.
"We look laboured and there's no hiding place for the lads at the back as we didn't compete at the level we should be competing at.
"It was not good enough and the back five didn't perform as a unit."
