The best chances came after the break, with Paul Parry's shot saved by Owls keeper Mark Crossley, while Michael Chopra and Steven Thompson went close.
Cardiff were frequently troubled by Wayne Andrews - impressive on his debut on loan from Coventry - and he had a shot superbly saved by Neil Alexander.
Crossley then had to make another good stop from Joe Ledley to earn his side a share of the spoils.
Cardiff boss Dave Jones:
"Because we've been scoring freely the expectancy level is that we should do that every week. "In the second half we took it to them, they cleared two off the line and their keeper pulled off two great saves.
"I don't think the referee allowed the game to flow, he was too whistle happy, it wasn't a dirty game, just two teams giving it a go."
