| | Nathan Ellington scored the goal which beat Ipswich and took Wigan back to the top of the Championship table. The striker picked himself up after being fouled by Fabian Wilnis to slot home a 42nd-minute penalty. After the break, an outstanding save from Kelvin Davis prevented Jimmy Bullard's fierce shot from doubling Wigan's advantage. And Gary Teale fired over and Ellington went close near the end as a dominant Wigan completed a comfortable victory. Wigan boss Paul Jewell: "Nothing was ever going to be decided today but this is a big result for us and takes us three points closer to where we want to be," he said. But the Latics face playing behind closed doors if a row over payment for policing continues to blight the club. "For 18 months this club seems to be paying substantially more than anyone else, that seems unfair," Jewell added. Ipswich boss Joe Royle: "We have gone off the boil. We don't have a goal in us at the moment and that is a concern," commented Royle. "We didn't create any chances for our strikers today but sometimes you have to do that yourself.
