Rolls took over at Weymouth in November 2009

Weymouth football club owner George Rolls is to let the club's fans decide whether or not he should stay.

Rolls has issued a 21-day notice of a general meeting to be held at the Bob Lucas Stadium after their game with Didcot on Saturday 24 February.

Rolls says he is unhappy at "a small minority that are intent on causing trouble and negativity for the Club."

Rolls took over at Weymouth 15 months ago, having previously left Cambridge United in controversial circumstances.

When Rolls took over at the Wessex Stadium he and other directors claim they pumped around £200,000 into the club to keep it afloat.

But while Rolls rescued the then Blue Square South club from administration, debts continued to grow to the extent that he warned it would go into liquidation without an official agreement.

Last March Weymouth entered into a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) with creditors, and consequently faced an automatic 10-point deduction, leaving them at the bottom of the Zamaretto Premier Division.

Last January he sacked then manager Ian Hutchinson 12 days after telling the local Dorset Echo newspaper Hutchinson had picked up enough points to warrant a permanent contract. Two months later he reappointed Hutchinson, but last month, shortly after revealing plans to extend Hutchinson's contract beyond 2012, he sacked him again.

Many Weymouth supporters have openly expressed their anger and concern at the manner in which Rolls has conducted the club's affairs.

Weymouth's problems have not surprised Cambridge United supporters. In August 2009, under pressure from supporters and shareholders, Rolls relinquished his role as U's chairman after manager Martin Ling resigned after just nine days in the job.
