The midfielder inspired the Norwich side of the early 1990s to arguably their finest hour when they beat the Germans in their own Olympic Stadium.

Having finished third in the inaugural Premier League, Mike Walker's stylish Canaries embarked on their UEFA Cup adventure in season 1993/94.

They duly disposed of Vitesse Arnhem before shocking the mighty Bayern on a memorable night in Munich.

The Canaries were eventually knocked out by Inter Milan but that win remains the only victory for a British side over Bayern in Germany, and Goss recalls with relish his part in a famous triumph.

"We were underdogs - they were favourites for the game and their record on their home patch speaks for itself," he explained.

"But when we went there, we had such a togetherness, a great inner belief and some tremendous players like Chris Sutton and Ruel Fox.
