Fifa drops charges against Kuffour
Sammy Kuffour and John Carew
Sammy Kuffour (left) has been cleared of attacking a referee
Fifa have decided not to press possible disciplinary charges against Ghanaian defender Samuel Kuffour.

The world soccer governing body said they were dropping charges due to lack of evidence.

Kuffour was accused of attempting to attack the referee after a World Cup qualifier in Sudan last February.

One of three candidates for the African Footballer of the Year award, Kuffour was alleged to have attacked referee Tessema Hailemalak of Ethiopia after Ghana had been beaten by Sudan in Khartoum.

The referee put the incident in his match report.

But the referee's report has not be substantiated, and Fifa say the case is now closed.
