Ahly squeeze into last 16
Defending champions Al Ahly have made it into the second round of the Champions' League.

They held Kenya's Oserian Fastac to a 0-0 draw in Nairobi, and go through 2-1 on aggregate.

They are joined by a series of other heavyweights who were also in a precarious position before the weekend's ties.

Raja Casablanca and Orlando Pirates managed to extricate themselves from potentially difficult situations.

  2nd round draw
Olympic Emyrne (Mad) v Costa do Sol (Moz)
ASEC (Civ) v Enyimba (Ngr)
Zamalek (Egy) v Nkana (Zam)
Raja Casablanca (Mar) v Etoile (Cgo)
Esperance (Tun) v Al-Medina (Lba)
Stade Malien (Mli) v Jeanne d'Arc (Sen)
TP Mazembe (Drc) v Orlando Pirates (Rsa)
Al-Ahly (Egy, holders) v Al-Merreikh (Sud)
Raja's foreign contingent of Cameroonian striker Frank Enden Elokan and Senegalese Mohamed Ali Diallo shared the goals as Raja won 3-1 away at Wallidan of the Gambia for a 5-2 overall win.

Pirates, also just 2-1 up after the first leg, scored twice in the last 20 minutes to win at St Louisienne of Reunion.

Razak's triumph

Former Bafana Bafana striker Pollen Ndlanya was among the scorers.

Ahly had some woeful finishing from Oserian Fastac and the goalkeeping of Essam Al Hadari to thank for their continued progress.

John Baraza missed several good chances for the hosts, who had Kenyan national team coach Reinhard Fabisch helping out on the bench.

Al Hadari, who was outstanding in last year's Champions League, also made some vital saves.

Ahly striker Khaled Bibo was unable to maintain his superb record in Kenya
Ahly's Bibo was found wanting
Ahly now meet Al Merreikh of Sudan in the second round to decide a place in the last eight, where the real prize money is to be found. .

Raja play Etoile du Congo, who produced one of the upsets of the first round by eliminating Cotonsport of Cameroon.

Etoile last year also created a first round shock by eliminating defending champions Hearts of Oak of Ghana.

Hearts crashed out again on Sunday, beaten 4-2 on aggregate by Stade Malien.

The Bamako team, coached by former African Footballer of the Year Abdul Razak, won the return leg in Mali 3-1 on Sunday.

It is a major triumph for the former Ghanaian international.
