Enyimba 3-0 Simba
Nigeria's Enyimba coasted to comfortable 3-0 win over Simba of Tanzania in their Group A encounter in the African Champions League on Sunday.
Enyimba scored all their goals in a nine-minute burst in the first half, taking the lead in the 21st minute with a powerful drive from the right-hand side by Yusuf Mohamed.
The Nigerians made it two seven minutes later through Muri Ogubiyi, who ran straight through at the goalkeeper before finishing off from close range.
A minute later, a double one-two allowed Ghanaian-born Joetex Frimpong to grab a third, his sixth goal in this year's competition.
The game proved a battle of attrition in the second-half as the ball became difficult to manoeuvre on a waterlogged pitch.
Simba, who upset defending champions Zamalek in the second round, had a good effort near halftime when Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama fumbled an effort from Jumanne Tondola.
But their best chances came after the break, twice catching Enyimba's defence on the break.
Enyeama made a fine save to stop Stephen Mapunda in the 50th minute - and five minutes later Clement Kahabuka was hurried into his shot and missed from the edge of the area.
Enyimba now top group A after top seeds Asec Abidjan from Ivory Coast drew 1-1 with Egypt's Ismailia on Saturday.
