The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has suspended national team coach Wieslaw Grabowski, following the Warriors' embarrassing defeat to Swaziland last Sunday. It will be at least two weeks until a decision on Grabowski's status will be made, but he is unlikely to continue as coach.
In the wake of the defeat Zifa has decided to appoint a technical committee to run the affairs of the national team, including appointment of coaches.
"We will take two weeks to set up the technical committee and it would be wrong to pre-judge their decision," said Zifa chief executive Charles Nhemachena. "But Grabowski is unlikely to be retained as coach. "There's been a general outcry after the defeat to Swaziland, and we want to avoid missing out on qualifying for the 2004 Nations Cup finals." Zifa had asked for a postponement of the Swaziland match as they were expecting the game to be played in July. As a result Grabowski had only three days to train the team. | See also: Other top Africa stories: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||
