Barcelona in talks with Babangida
Haruna Babangida played for Nigeria at the 1999 Fifa World Youth Championships
Babangida plays for Barcelona's 'B' team.
FC Barcelona are locked in negotiations with Haruna Babangida, over improved terms for a new contract.

Haruna is the younger brother of Nigerian international, Tijani, who played for the Super Eagles at the African Nations Cup.

Playing for Barcelona 'B', currently leading Spain's Second Division, Haruna has reportedly demanded a new three year contract.

He also insists on having a clause in his new deal that will allow any interested first division club pay a fixed transfer fee of $750,000.

Barcelona, rejecting Babangida's demand, are offering a two year contract, with a possible salary increase should he make the first team.

"We are still negotiating. We are very keen to keep Babangida at the club", said a Barcelona spokesman.

"Babangida's a very good player, quite young and has a promising career ahead of him."

"We are talking to his manager and hope to come to an agreement that satisfies all parties concerned." the spokesman said.

Haruna, yet to make a full international appearance for his country, played in the Under-20 national side that played at the 1999 Fifa World Youth Championships.

Nigeria reached the quarter-finals.
