No coach for Zambia
Zambia have no coach to lead them in the Cosafa Cup
Zambia's prospects of re-employing Danish coach Roald Poulsen are looking doubtful.

This follows a government announcement that it has no capacity to meet salaries of an expatriate coach.

Deputy Sports Minister Juliane Chisupa says the government has no money to pay another expatriate coach besides Dutchman Jan Brouwer, who is also still on the state's payroll.

Brouwer has a contract running until August, but is currently serving a one year Caf suspension.

Financial crisis

The deputy minister says the government is already having trouble paying Brouwer who has not received his salary since last December.

Chisupa, however, said the Football Association (Faz), are free to engage a coach of their choice provided they can pay him.

Faz President Evaristo Kasunga has confessed his financially crippled association has no capacity to pay an expatriate coach.

He said Faz are relying on the government "as major stakeholder" to enable them to retain Poulsen.

Kasunga said FAZ were lobbying with government to consider their plight on Poulsen who left Zambia for his South African base at the beginning of March.

Faz spokesperson Emmanuel Munaile on Thursday remained mute after the deputy minister's announcement.

"It is very difficult for me to say anything especially after what the minister has said" Munaile commented.

Faz's problems have deepened following a legal suit by former national team coach Ben Bamfuchile over unpaid salaries.

However, Zambia is next month supposed to start preparing for the regional Cosafa Castle Cup.

Although the expenses of the competition are met by the sponsor, the team will still need a coach to lead the team.
