![]() | Fifa free Kilambe ![]() Kilambe can play for Power Dynamos again Fifa has lifted the indefinite suspension it had slapped on Zambia's international striker, Rotson Kilambe. Football's governing body made the ruling in Zurich. "Following a meeting of Fifa's Executive Committee, a decision was taken to lift the ban on Kilambe", Nicolas Maingot, Fifa spokesman, told BBC Sport Online. Kilambe had been suspended from international football since September last year.
The Zambian international tested positive for Cannabis use, following a World Cup qualifier against Cameroon. Kilambe was the first African player to be banned by FIFA on doping related charges. Reacting to Fifa's decision, Evaristo Kasunga, president of the Football Association of Zambia (Faz), said the lifting of Kilambe's suspension was good news for the country. "It is good news but this should act as a lesson to other players.", said Kasunga. The Faz president warned Zambian players against using performance enhancing substances. "We should not expect a similar ruling if one of our players is caught again. The use of drugs should be discouraged at all levels". Ben Bamfuchile, Kilambe's coach at Zambian premier league side, Power Dynamos, said the ruling was his club's greatest moment this year.
"I am actually happy for Kilambe. He's always been committed to training, despite the ban. "Everyone at the club is happy because Kilambe is a very important player for us." "Though winning is all about team work, Kilambe's presence always makes a difference." | See also: Other top Africa stories: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||
