Mazembe play under protest
Lack of TV facilities in Lubumbashi cost Mazembe
Lack of TV facilities in Lubumbashi cost Mazembe
Congolese champions TP Mazembe will play their Champions League opener against Nigeria's Julius Berger this weekend despite a row over the venue, FA officials have said.

"I confirm that the match will after all take place here in Kinshasa on Saturday at 4.30 p.m. (1530 GMT)," said Jean-Claude Tshiyoka, deputy secretary-general of the Congolese Federation of Football Associations (FECOFA).

Mazembe are based in the Democratic Republic of Congo's southern city of Lubumbashi, which has a long-standing rivalry with Kinshasa, and had initially refused to play their Group A fixture in the capital.

FECOFA, however, ordered Mazembe to travel to Kinshasa for the match because the club's home ground could not meet the Confederation of African Football's requirement that all fixtures be televised live.

Tshiyoka said Mazembe would be able to play future Champions League home fixtures in Lubumbashi because a television unit had been sent to the city.

The unit would not arrive in time, though, to guarantee a live broadcast of this Saturday's match.
