Nigeria win African Youth Cup
The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria
The Golden Eaglets made easy work of the Burkinabe

Full time: Nigeria 3-0 Burkina Faso(Half-time: Nigeria 2-0 Burkina Faso)

Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso 3-0 in the 4th African Under-17 Championship in the Seychelles to become Africa's best youth national team.

The Golden Eaglets proved too strong for the Burkinabe, who appeared to have lost any zeal for a good fight.

The game should have been played between Nigeria and Guinea, but the Guineans were withdrawn from the competition on Friday after Fifa banned the country from all international competitions.

Fifa's action followed the Guinean government's refusal to reinstate the FA executives dismissed by the sports minister in January.

Nigeria, who won the maiden edition of the Under-17 World Cup in China in 1985 and again in 1993, will now be joined by Burkina Faso and Mali, to represent Africa at this year's Fifa World Under-17 Championship in Trinidad and Tobago in September.

Early goals

The opening goal at the Stade L'Unite was scored by Abiodun Oluwasegun in the seventh minute.

A long cross into the penalty area looked harmless but Abiodun managed to slip behind the Burkinabe defenders and headed in.

Just five minutes later Nigeria increased their lead after the Burkinabe defence lost possession of the ball in their own half.

The ball was fed quickly to Osunwa, who, with just the goalkeeper to beat, scored the first of his two goals.

Nigeria came close twice again before the break but Abiodun hit over the bar and the goalkeeper denied Musa at close range.

A gift

Burkina Faso came on fighting a bit harder in the second half but it was Nigeria who looked like scoring more goals.

Indeed Nigeria were home and dry by the 74th minute when Osunwa scored their third goal.

The Burkinabe keeper miskicked a goal kick, which fell at the feet of Osunwa just outside the penalty area.

The joint top goalscorer accepted the gift, went past the goalkeeper and hit the empty net.

Shocks and weaknesses

The tournament has produced some shocks, as Cameroon - who were tipped to go very far - managed to trounce the hosts 5-0 in the opening game only to crash out of the tournament after losing 2-1 to Mali and then only managing a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso.

The hosts Seychelles also emerged as the weakest nation in the tournament as they conceded as many as 17 goals and only managed to score one.
