Chelsea v Portsmouth (1500): Carlo Ancelotti takes a slight risk on centre-half and captain John Terry, recovering from a foot injury, as the Blues aim for their first-ever league and cup double
The man in Ancelotti's way is former Stamford Bridge boss Avram Grant, whose fortunes could not be in greater contrast: Portsmouth are in administration, rock-bottom and relegated from top-flight football
Pompey fans aren't bothered that Chelsea have beaten them twice this season, are unchanged from their 8-0 defeat of Wigan Athletic, and are defending the Cup, they're here for their second cup final in three years
Chelsea, however, are Wembley winners under Guus Hiddink last year and scorers of 103 league goals this season, and their fans may be baying for a heavy win
Chelsea make much of the running in the first 20 minutes, Frank Lampard strikes the post, Nicolas Anelka plays with a point to prove against his old coach, and Didier Drogba is blocked twice by Aaron Mokoena
The game will at least be notable for two astonishing misses as Frederic Piquionne can only find Petr Cech with the goal begging and then Salomon Kalou hits the crossbar five yards out from Ashley Cole's ball
Following Lampard and Kalou, Terry strikes the bar with a header, David James turns Drogba's rocket of a free-kick on to the woodwork and the Ivorian hits the post from a tight angle, all before half time
Portsmouth put pressure on the Blues' midfield, leading to Kevin Prince Boateng's mistimed tackle on Michael Ballack which sees the German taken off before the break in possibly his last game for the Londoners
Not even the Portsmouth faithful could deny that Chelsea should have beaten James at some point but, with Fabio Capello watching, the England international sets a new record as the oldest goalkeeper in a FA Cup final
Pompey start brightly in the second half and, following good work from 2006 FA Cup winner Steve Finnan, Aruna Dindane earns a penalty from Juliano Belletti's clumsy tackle only for Boateng to miss the spot-kick
Boateng's penalty is straight, soft and saved by the legs of Cech, 22 years and a day since David Beasant first saved a penalty in the FA Cup final from Liverpool's John Aldridge
Moments later and Drogba gets another crack at a free-kick in a similar position to which he struck the bar but sends the ball to the far post, James' left, this time to wrong foot the keeper and put Chelsea ahead
Drogba has the Premier League golden boot for the season, hits the crossbar and post, and now equals the record of scoring in three separate FA Cup finals, earning him man of the match
The South Coast side hit back and Nadir Belhadj supplies two crosses that deserve goals at their end before Lampard earns a penalty from Michael Brown's foul only to send his kick wide mere weeks from the World Cup
Lampard joins Charlie Wallace as the only other player to miss the goal from a penalty in the final but it doesn't matter as the final whistle sounds soon after and Ashley Cole sets a new record of six winners' medals
Chelsea can display the FA Cup alongside the Premier League trophy this summer but many of their players, like their Portsmouth counterparts, bound for South Africa, may not be offered new contracts when they return
