Riise's Reds rocket
  Match report: Liverpool 5-0 Ipswich

In his first season in the Premiership, Liverpool defender John Arne Riise clearly demonstrated that he possesses one of the most powerful shots in the game.

And with the final game of the season last Saturday the Norwegian reminded us once again why Gerard Houllier was so keen to bring him to Anfield.

With Norway not qualifying for the World Cup it was the last glimpse of Riise's unquestionable talent that fans will see until the start of next season.

Riise celebrates in trademark fashion
The 21-year-old had already opened the scoring against beleaguered Ipswich with a neatly-taken goal after 13 minutes.

But it was his second 22 minutes later that really took the breath away.

Riise unleashes exocet missiles from his gifted left foot and in retrospect Town goalkeeper Andy Marshall must feel relieved that he did not get in the way of the Norwegian's shot.

The former Monaco left-back smashed the ball with astonishing venom.

It flew across Marshall and crashed into the Ipswich net in the blink of an eye.

With this ability - reminiscent of Brazil's Roberto Carlos - it comes as no real surprise that Riise finished the Premiership season as Liverpool's third top scorer with eight goals.
