Season's ups and downs
Gilles Grimandi and Patrick Vieira parade the Premiership trophy in north London
Arsenal regained the Premiership trophy in style
BBC Sport Online reviews the ups and downs after another season of drama in the English divisions.

Premiership

Arsenal claimed the title in style by winning 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to a goal from Sylvain Wiltord.

Liverpool leapfrogged Man Utd into second place by beating Blackburn 4-3.

Liverpool confirmed second place on the final day with a 5-0 win over Ipswich, which condemned the Tractors Boys to relegation, alongside Leicester and Derby.

Champions: Arsenal
Relegated: Ipswich, Leicester and Derby

Division One

Birmingham ended their play-off misery, with a thrilling victory on penalties over Norwich in the Division One play-off final.

They will join West Bromich Albion and Manchester City in the Premiership next season.

Stockport, Barnsley and Crewe all suffered relegation.

Champions: Man City
Promoted: West Brom
Play-off winners: Birmingham.
Relegated: Stockport, Barnsley, Crewe

Division Two

Stoke City ended the 'jinx' of the Millennium Stadium, beating Brentford 2-0 despite occupying the previously unlucky south dressing room.

Gudjon Thordarson's men go up alongside Reading and champions Brighton, while Cambridge Utd, Wrexham, Bury and Bournemouth are relegated.

Champions: Brighton
Promoted: Reading
Play-off winners: Stoke
Relegated: Cambridge Utd, Wrexham, Bury, Bournemouth.

Division Three

Cheltenham filled the final promotion place after beating Rushden 3-1 in the Third Division play-off final.

Steve Cotterill's men will join Luton, Mansfield and champions Plymouth Argyle in Division Two next season.

Halifax Town became the first team to suffer the ignominy of twice being relegated from the Football League.

Champions: Plymouth
Promoted: Luton, Mansfield
Play-off winners: Cheltenham
Relegated: Halifax

Conference

Boston beat relegated Hayes 2-0 to clinch the Nationwide Conference title - and win promotion to the Nationwide Football League.

The Lincolnshire club began the day level on points with Dagenham & Redbridge but had a vastly superior goal difference and knew that a victory would secure promotion.

The Daggers won 3-0 at home to Chester but events at Hayes meant they would have to settle for second.

Champions: Boston United
Relegated: Dover, Stalybridge, Hayes.
