 | | Tuesday, 2 April, 2002, 18:10 GMT 19:10 UK Stadium renamed after Puskas  Puskas starred in Hungary's 6-3 defeat of England Hungary's government will rename the country's biggest football stadium after Real Madrid legend Ferenc Puskas, who turned 75 on Tuesday. 'The Budapest Nepstadion' ('People's Stadium') will now carry Puskas' name, confirmed government spokesman Gabor Borokai. But the exact new title has not been announced. Puskas, hospitalised since October 2000 for arteriosclerosis, briefly turned up in the stadium on Tuesday and even kicked a ball, cheered by 75 children.
Hungary's government was also scheduled to host a reception for Puskas in a Budapest hotel where other Real Madrid greats Alfredo Di Stefano and Emilio Butragueno were due to attend. Puskas was centre forward in the famous Hungarian side that beat England 6-3 in 1954. He left Hungary during the 1956 anti-Soviet revolution, joining Real Madrid, but returned to his homeland in the 1990s.
