![]() | Monday, 18 March, 2002, 11:07 GMT Beckham back to his best ![]() The hair colour may be different, but David Beckham's exquisite chip over David James in the West Ham goal proved some things never change. Beckham turned on the style in Manchester United's scintillating 5-3 win over the Hammers at Upton Park. The England captain anticipated a Paul Scholes pass to perfection, and his first-time effort left James to witness a moment of pure inspiration. Beckham has recaptured his England form for United in recent weeks, looking sharper and hungrier after an enforced break. Many questioned Sir Alex Ferguson's motives for resting such a key player at a time when some of his team-mates were also out of sorts.
But Ferguson identified that Beckham's exertions for his country - most notably his one-man show against Greece in October - had taken their toll. And, as on so many other occasions, the 60-year-old Scot is now reaping the benefits from his decision to give Beckham the chance to recharge his batteries. Ferguson said: "David Beckham's form over the past few weeks has been magnificent. "It's been the David Beckham that we all want to see. His goal was marvellous, delicate, just beautiful." |
