Wales call for Cardiff duo
Cardiff striker Robert Earnshaw
Robert Earnshaw's form with Cardiff has been noticed
Two of Cardiff City's young FA Cup heroes will get the chance to sample top level football in the glamour friendly international next week against World Cup favourites Argentina.

Defender Danny Gabbidon and striker Robert Earnshaw, both uncapped, will join Mark Hughes' Wales squad for the mouth-watering friendly with Argentina at the Millennium Stadium on Wednesday, 13 February (kick-off 1930 GMT).

The game was only given the go-ahead late on Monday when the FA of Wales received written confirmation from Argentina.

The game was organised in just four days after the South Americans had requested last week to play under Cardiff's closed roof.

Cardiff City defender Danny Gabbidon
Danny Gabbidon has been promoted from the Welsh under-21 side

It is part of their preparations for their World Cup group match on June 7 against England in Sapporo, Japan's indoor stadium.

Gabbidon and Earnshaw had been called into a Wales training camp at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel near Cardiff, already arranged for next weekend.

That squad has now been transformed into a full international party, and the two, who figured in Cardiff's FA Cup giant-killing of Leeds, will be released for City's game with Brentford on Tuesday before joining up with the rest of the squad.

Both are products of last season's Wales Under-21 side, and the nearest either have previously got to a senior match was when Gabbidon was an unused substitute for the last international in Cardiff when Wales beat Belarus 1-0 in October.

Johnson recalled

Manager Hughes has lost Leicester midfielder Matthew Jones, who will miss the rest of the year with a knee injury, while they are awaiting a fitness check on Norwich's Iwan Roberts.

West Brom's Andy Johnson has earned a recall, but Huddersfield defender Steve Jenkins will be released to play in his side's Division Two clash against Blackpool - though he will remain on stand-by.

Premiership stars Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy, Gary Speed and Robie Savage have all been included, while John Hartson is certain to relish a battle with Argentinian strongman Roberto Ayala.

Football Association of Wales officials are hoping to put match tickets on sale on Wednesday at all their usual outlets.

Wales squad: P Jones (Southampton), Ward (Forest), Crossley (Middlesbrough), Coyne (Grimsby), Delaney (Aston Villa), Melville (Fulham), Symons (C Palace), Page (Sheff Utd), Barnard (Barnsley), J Robinson (Charlton), A Johnson (WBA), Koumas (Tranmere), Pembridge (Everton), Davies (Spurs), C Robinson (Wolves), Blake (Wolves), Speed (Newcastle), Bellamy (Newcastle), Savage (Leicester), Giggs (Man Utd), Roberts (Norwich), Hartson (Celtic).

On stand-by: Taylor (Burnley), Jenkins (Huddersfield), J Price (Tranmere), G Roberts (Tranmere).

To join squad: Gabbidon (Cardiff), Earnshaw (Cardiff).
