Kalusha eyes Zambia job
Kalusha Bwalya says his playing experience is invaluable
By Kalusha Bwalya in Mexico

Zambia's attempts to find a credible stand-in for their suspended national coach is an indication of their determination to put up a good challenge in Mali.

The Nations Cup has in recent years become a very hard and competitive tournament, featuring some of the best players in the world.

That's why its important for each nation to be well prepared and have the best coaching talent at their disposal.

For my part, I have been prepared to assist Zambia from a technical aspect for two years now.

And I believe I would have done a better job than some of the previous coaches.

Since I started playing for the National team in 1982, I been able to see what is good, what is average and what is bad.

Now having changed from being an active footballer to coaching I hope to use all that experience, and perhaps even guide a team to victory in the Nations Cup or World Cup.

Learning from the best

Look at what George Weah has done with the Liberian team.

He took his team to the brink of qualifying for next summer's World Cup finals, and got them into only their second Nations Cup.

It shows what a young African coach with lots of playing experience at the top level can achieve if given the chance.

Inspiration - Leo Beenhakker
I'm happy with the way my coaching career is progressing in Mexico and feel that given the chance I could a very good national coach.

That could be with Zambia, or if necessary, elsewhere.

As a player I played for some of the best coaches in the world.

On the international level George Leekens (Belgium 1998 World Cup), Gus Hiddink (Holland 1998 World Cup), Manolo Lapuente (Mexico 1998 World Cup), Leo Beenhakker (Dutch National team, Real Madrid) Marcelo Bielsa (current Argentine national coach) and Bobby Robson (England 1990 World Cup), to mention but a few.

And in Zambia for the late Sir Zoom Ndhlovu, Dick Makwaza, Fred Mwila, Boniface Simutowe and Col. Brightwell Banda

From all these men, I learnt a lot, and this is the knowledge I am keen to impart to other players as coach myself.
