Former Republic of Ireland striker David Kelly has completed his free transfer move to Motherwell.

And former Wigan Athletic midfielder Roberto Martinez could follow suit.

The 35-year-old Kelly underwent a medical at Fir Park on Monday morning and later put pen to paper on a one-year deal.

Kelly had turned down an offer to become Sheffield United's reserve team coach after his Bramall Lane playing contract was not renewed.

Unlikely destination

Martinez is expected back from Spain on Tuesday to discuss a three-year deal with Motherwell.

The midfielder is a free agent and has other options.

Motherwell director of football Pat Nevin said: "When he comes back, we will have another chat with him."

However, it seems unlikely that Fir Park will be the destination for Jim McIntyre.

The former Reading midfielder is also being courted by St Johnstone, Rotherham and Walsall.

McIntyre had joined Reading from Kilmarnock in 1998 for 420,000.

Motherwell had also expressed an interest in David Rowson, but the midfielder opted to join English Second Division club Stoke City at the end of his Aberdeen contract.
