An England batting collapse saw New Zealand women prevail by nine runs at Hove to take the Twenty20 series 2-1.

A fine England bowling display, led by Yorkshire's Danielle Hazell, saw the White Ferns restricted to just 124-8 from their 20 overs.

But England struggled in reply, Sarah Taylor out for seven and skipper Charlotte Edwards caught on 19.

Danielle Wyatt and Lydia Greenway steadied the ship midway through the innings but it was not enough.

New Zealand had levelled the series at the Rose Bowl on Thursday, 1 July, with a four-run victory.

The Kiwis started well at Hove after winning the toss and choosing to bat first and the tourists passed the half-century mark without loss.

Opener Suzie Bates top-scored with 26 but Sara McGlashan - who hit 47 at the Rose Bowl - was out for just one as she was caught and bowled by Hazell.

The 22-year-old Hazell halted the White Ferns' progress, claiming an impressive 3-16 from her four overs, including both openers.

New Zealand posted 124-8 with Sophie Devine and Nicola Browne (22) also contributing 23 and 22 runs respectively.

The 2009 World Twenty20 winners England struggled in reply, however, reaching 36-2 with opener Sarah Taylor failing to repeat her previous day's highest Twenty20 score of 80.

With Taylor out for seven, Claire Taylor for only 12 and Laura Marsh and Jenny Gunn also out cheaply, England were reduced to 52-5.

The loss of Wyatt and Greenway signalled the end for England, who pressed on to 91-8.

And despite a brave unbeaten 15 from tail-ender Katherine Brunt and eight from Nicola Shaw, it was the tourists who sealed victory as Lucy Doolan and Devine both claimed three wickets each.
