Karen Rolton is hoping to lead Australia to their fifth World Cup triumph |
Australia have included two players in their squad for their first time for the Women's World Cup in March. New South Wales bowler Erin Osborne and middle-order batter Jessica Cameron of Victoria are in the 15-strong party. Captain Karen Rolton will also lead the squad on a five-match one-day series in New Zealand and a Twenty20 game against the White Ferns in Sydney in February. Eight teams will take part in the Women's World Cup hosted by champions Australia on 7-22 March. Australia's chair of selectors Marg Jennings said: "The squad announced is a dynamic outfit capable of defending the Women's World Cup, with two exciting players included in Australia's senior squad for the first time. "With a Rose Bowl series against New Zealand and a Women's Twenty20 international at the SCG to come before the World Cup, we are confident the team will be well prepared for the challenge of defending their title on home soil." New Zealand's squad - for both the Australia series and the World Cup - includes uncapped Central Districts bowler Abby Burrows, while all-rounder Kate Pulford is recalled for the first time since 2003. "Abby has been a consistent performer for many years, while Kate has the potential to be a match-winner for us," coach Gary Stead said.
