Claire Taylor dominated the hosts' bowlers

England women gained swift revenge for their opening one-day loss against New Zealand with a nine-wicket victory at the Lincoln Oval.

Claire Taylor took the plaudits with an unbeaten 111, as England cruised to their target of 243.

The platform for the win was laid by openers Sarah Taylor, who made 36 before being bowled by Beth McNeill, and Caroline Atkins, not out on 69.

The White Ferns were 242-8 in their 50 overs, with Sarah Tsukigawa making 73.

Skipper Charlotte Edwards, Laura Marsh and Isa Guha took two wickets apiece, while Jenny Gunn and Nicky Shaw claimed one each.

It is the first time England have beaten the hosts in New Zealand since 1982.

Taylor hit 15 fours in her seventh international century, bringing up her ton with a boundary struck to square leg.

She said: "It was a convincing victory for us. We performed better in every department today compared to the first one-dayer.

"I'm really excited to have played some good positive cricket and seen the job through.

"It's the first time I've been part of a victory over New Zealand in their own country, and it really sets the series up nicely for the third match on Thursday."

Acting head coach Mark Lane: said: "It was a very professional performance.

"Claire used all her experience to see us past a competitive total. For us to win the series we need to play more consistently as yesterday's performance wasn't good enough.

"Credit to the players as they were the ones that put things right today.

"We'll look forward to Thursday as it looks set to be another exciting series against another very good team."
