England's women made it four losses from four on their tour of India, as the hosts needed just 39 overs to overhaul an under-par score of 143.
Inserted by their hosts in Chennai, Charlotte Edwards' team were 67-7 before Lydia Greenway (50 not out) and Lynsey Askew (24) led a brief riposte.
The total was inadequate, however, as India openers Karu Jain and Jaya Sharma put on 126 for the first wicket.
Isa Guha and Laura Newton each picked up a consolation wicket at the end.
England's batsmen were cut down by the medium pace of Sharma, who took 4-16 in her 10 overs.
Her victims included Claire Taylor, a centurion in England's last match, for nine and skipper Edwards - who made 86 in the second match - for a five-ball duck.
England have now lost twice to India, once to Australia, and once to New Zealand.
"We hold our hands up and admit we didn?t play the best cricket out there and know we need to improve to get ourselves out of this rut," skipper Edwards said.
Greenway admitted to mixed feelings after her maiden one-day international fifty and said: "Ultimately it's the result that is most important and not the individual performances.
"It's a shame that my performance didn't have an impact on the outcome, I would have loved to come away with a win, but it wasn't to be.
"We've got to keep putting in 100% which is what everyone's doing and hopefully it'll pay off over the next few games.
"I'm pleased with my form at the moment - I've been making some runs and playing some positive cricket and I'll continue to go out there and do that, it's just disappointing to be on the losing side."
In the day's other match, New Zealand lost their first match of the tournament, to Australia.
The White Ferns and India have three wins each, while Australia have two.
