Brunt is no stranger to collecting awards |
England's Katherine Brunt has expressed delight at making the Woman Player of the Year short-list for next month's ICC awards in Mumbai. It is the first time a women's award has been part of the ceremony and Brunt will be up against Australia captain Karen Rolton and India's Anjum Chopra.
"To get nominated for this is amazing, but Karen Rolton is pretty much the favourite," Brunt told BBC Sport.
The 21-year-old is currently recovering from a back injury.
It restricted her appearances for England against India this summer, but she expects to be available for the team's next assignment when they take part in a four-nation event in the sub-continent in February.
"It's not a stress fracture, but it was brought on by the stress of bowling.
"I went to a rehab camp at the National Academy at Loughborough and I've got a 15-16 week programme to get back to fitness.
"The other girls have a fitness test in November but I've got a screening to see if I'm allowed to actually bowl.
"If I don't pass that I've got another month to go through my rehab, so I've got plenty of time," she said.
"I feel a lot stronger and a lot fitter now as it is. I'm getting there slowly but surely and hopefully I'll come back a quicker bowler with all this strengthening and conditioning I'm doing."
The awards are for the period 1 August 2005 to 8 August 2006 and Brunt's performance in helping England win last year's Women's Ashes series is the likely reason for her nomination.
She took nine wickets and hit a vital 52 to help her side win the second Test at Worcester by six wickets.
