Women's Twenty20 international, Derby: India 109-2 (19.2 overs) beat England 107-8 (20 overs) by eight wickets Dhar batted through the India innings under lights at Derby |
England's women failed in their bid to win their first Twenty20 international in three attempts when India handed them an eight-wicket defeat at Derby. India won the toss and made England bat, and it proved to be the right decision as the hosts lost eight wickets in making a just 108 runs.
Five of India's victims were run-outs, with Jhulan Goswami taking 2-14.
India lost just two wickets as they secured a winning total, with player of the match Rumeli Dhar 66 not out.
Captain Charlotte Edwards, who was out for a duck, dismissed the defeat as a freak result and looked forward to the first Test, which starts in Leicester on Tuesday.
"I think we just had a bit of a blip. We had a few freak run outs and it put us behind the rate," she told BBC Radio Five Live.
"There was a really good turnout and a really good atmosphere. It was really good fun. It was disappointing that we lost but I'm sure we'll put that right.
"We didn't come off but I'm really confident that in the Test and one-day series we all will."
