Waugh damages hand
Australia skipper Steve Waugh
Waugh's record-breaking Test appearance has been a painful one
Australia captain Steve Waugh was forced from the field on day three against West Indies after splitting the webbing on his left hand.

Waugh, who became the most capped player in Test history with 157 appearances, required six stitches but returned to action during the afternoon session.

He suffered the injury attempting to stop a shot on a morning which saw debutant Windies batsman Devon Smith score a half-century on debut.

Smith led a recovery for the home side but was dismissed just before lunch.

Vice-captain Ricky Ponting, who skippers Australia's one-day side, took over in Waugh's absence.
