| CMJ was a good schoolboy cricketer who also played for Surrey's second XI. His journalistic talents were encouraged by EW Swanton, joining the Cricketer magazine as his assistant editor. From there he joined the BBC Sports News department and was appointed cricket correspondent in succession to Brian Johnston in 1973. In 1980 he left the BBC to become editor of the Cricketer, but returned in 1985, combining both roles until he joined the Daily Telegraph as their cricket correspondent in 1990. He switched to The Times eight years later but remains a regular on TMS. Christopher is sometimes a disturbingly good mimic and is also renowned for his poor time-keeping. His son Robin plays county cricket for Sussex.
