McGrath targets Vaughan
Michael Vaughan
Vaughan has played no Tests against Australia
Glenn McGrath has announced that his target in the Ashes series is England's most in-form batsman, Michael Vaughan.

Vaughan hit four centuries in the seven summer Tests in his home country to push his average up to 47.50 in 23 matches.

And when asked by BBC Sport Online on the eve of the Ashes tour how he would feel if he was targeted by McGrath, Vaughan's response was to the point.

"It would be disappointing if he didn't target me," he said at the time.

"I would be very surprised if it isn't either me or Marcus Trescothick because he's got a very good record against openers. Look at how many times he got Mike Atherton out.

"He's a world-class bowler who I will respect but I don't want to worry too much. I don't think we should fear him."

McGrath's thinking was that he lacked "form on the board against Australia."

The fast bowler, the second Australian to reach 400 Test wickets, added: "I have had quite a lot of success in the past against guys I want to target.

Caught in Worcester

"I have only really come up against Vaughan in two matches.

"One was for Worcester and I bowled one ball to him there and he hit me up in the air and was caught.

"The other one I didn't get a chance to bowl to him because Jason (Gillespie) knocked him over for a duck."

McGrath will also enter the Ashes series in good touch after capturing 14 wickets at an average 10.86 in the series win over Pakistan.
