White on course for Ashes return
Craig White
White has become a key part of the England set-up
England all-rounder Craig White has been given the all clear to resume bowling.

White will play - and bowl - in Yorkshire's game against Kent, which begins on Wednesday, and is on course to return for the first Ashes Test next month.

"I saw a specialist on Monday and have been told the injury is virtually clear so it is time to start bowling again," White told BBC Sport Online.

He suffered the begininnings of a stress fracture during England's tour of Sri Lanka, but the injury was not diagnosed until shortly before the first Test against Pakistan.

White, one of England's 12 centrally-contracted players, joined up with the squad at Lord's but was not fit to play.

He was instructed to rest, but was still able to play for Yorkshire as a batsman.

White was a success in Pakistan

"I will bowl at training this morning (Tuesday) at Headingley and then give it a go against Kent," said White.

"I need to get some overs under my belt and will probably play all Yorkshire's game between now and the Edgbaston Test.

"It depends on what happens in the next couple of weeks, but I am confident I will be fit for the Aussies."

England missed White's all-round ability in the last Test. Of all the England attack, he would have been best suited to the Old Trafford surface, while only Michael Atherton averaged more with the bat against Pakistan in the winter.

"It will have to be carefully monitored, but I have got four weeks to gradually build-up my pace and as long as it is treated properly it should be okay."

White has not bowled since Yorkshire's game against Somerset at the beginning of May.

"I was lucky it was diagnosed when it was, otherwise I could have been out for around six months."
