Kumble will be ready for England
Anil Kumble
Kumble claimed a wicket despite having a broken jaw
Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble should recover from surgery to repair a broken jaw in time to take part in the tour of England, according to his surgeon.

Kumble's jaw was broken by a bouncer from West Indies paceman Mervyn Dillon in the fourth Test in Antigua.

He will undergo surgery on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery in about two weeks.

India take on England in their first NatWest one-day international on 25 June, with the first Test starting on 29 July.

"He should be back in full action after two weeks," said surgeon Kishore Nayak.

"In fact, he can even start training in three or four days, although we will advise him to rest."

Kumble had recently returned to international cricket after a year long lay-off with a shoulder injury.

"I am disappointed, but it is part and parcel of the game," he said.

Leg-spinner missed

The 31-year-old still managed to bowl 14 overs and take the wicket of Brian Lara in Antigua, but will miss the final match of the West indies series with the rubber poised at 1-1.

Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said the tourists will miss Kumble, who has taken 319 wickets in 70 Tests.

"We missed a spinner on this pitch. If Anil was around we would have made a match of it," Ganguly said after the drawn Test in Antigua.

"I never expected the wicket to break like this. But we couldn't do much with the injury Anil had.

"He was 20% fit and the way he bowled those 14 overs was amazing.

"You could see that there was something in the pitch for the spinners."
