Warne says victory in sight
Shane Warne appeals for Boucher's wicket
Warne bowled 70 overs but took six wickets
A weary Shane Warne claimed Australia were on the way to victory in the second Test, after his six wickets saw South Africa bowled out for 473 at Newlands.

"Hopefully we are on the verge of winning the Test match and the series," Warne said.

"Were in a very good position, with nine wickets in hand on a flat wicket."

Warne picked up the wickets of tailenders Makhaya Ntini and Dewald Pretorius just before tea on the fourth day to complete figures of six for 161.

We believe we can bowl them out but it will not be easy
Neil McKenzie
His performance gave Australia four sessions to chase the 331 needed for victory.

And by stumps, Australia's batsmen had reduced the gap to 200 runs, for the loss of Justin Langer.

The scalps of the two batsmen, both out looking to make quick runs, were a just reward for Warne, who toiled through 70 overs.

It was the most overs the leg-spinner has ever bowled in an innings in his 100-Test career, surpassing the 55 he delivered against South Africa in Durban in 1993-94.

Unlucky 13

Neil McKenzie, who was run-out on 99 during his team's innings, said the mood in the South African dressing room was "fired up".

"We believe we can bowl them out but it will not be easy," he said.

"We will have to be really disciplined and take all our chances."

McKenzie became the second South African to be run out for 99 against Australia this season, following a direct throw from Damien Martyn at short extra cover.

Jacques Kallis suffered the same fate when he was last man out in Melbourne in December.

"I was more disappointed for the team than for myself," McKenzie said.

"Another 20 or 30 runs would have been really good to bowl to."

The highest winning total ever achieved in a Test at Cape Town's Newlands ground is just 180, and the highest fourth innings score 335.

However, five of the nine instances of totals of more than 331 to win in the fourth innings were by Australian teams.

The most recent was against Pakistan in Hobart two seasons ago when Justin Langer and Adam Gilchrist hit centuries in helping their side reach 369 for six.
