Woolmer leads Donald tributes
Allan Donald: Injury problems finally caught up with him
Donald was talked out of retirement last year
Former South African coach Bob Woolmer was quick to offer Allan Donald a new job after the fast bowler announced his retirement from Test cricket.

Woolmer has agreed to help Kenya, Namibia, Holland and Canada prepare for next year's World Cup in South Africa and would like Donald to work alongside him.

Donald is still hoping to play for South Africa in the tournament, but Woolmer believes he could combine the two.

"I've already asked him to make himself available for all four countries. He's going to come back to me, but I've told him that we'd very much like to use him to coach the fast bowlers.

"I'm not asking him to coach every day of the year - he could still play for South Africa and coach," said Woolmer.

"A bowler of his stature would be of tremendous value. I'd like to use him as early as June/July this year, but we have to fit in with his programme."

Former South African all-rounder Mike Procter hailed Donald as "one of the all time great fast bowlers".

Procter, currently a selector for the national side, said Donald's willingness to battle on despite a series of injury problems showed that he was a consummate team player.

"He has such a big heart that he wanted to keep going and keep trying for the team."

Procter added: "It was nevr just a question of raw pace with him, he was very much a thinker's fast bowler.

"He had very good control and he could pick up the conditions very well and understand a batsman's strengths and weaknesses."

Current all-rounder Jacques Kallis said Donald's bowling tips had been a tremendous help to him when he first came into the South African side.

"His record speaks for itself and he was always the bowler who put his hands up when the chips were down.

"I only played against him on a handful of occasions, thank goodness, otherwise he would have spoiled my batting record.

"He never gave you much and he had genuine pace."

Until the arrival on the scene of Australian Brett Lee, Donald was the fastest white bowler in the game for several years.

"He had so many qualities - his ability, his speed, his athleticism in the field, his never give up attitude," added Woolmer.

"I'm sure he can feel very proud of his record."
