Lehmann's double delight

Lehmann last played for Australia in India
Batsman Darren Lehmann has been drafted into the Australian squad for the final two round robin matches in the triangular VB Series.

The 31-year-old replaces Andrew Symonds for Friday's match against New Zealand and the game against South Africa two days later, both in Perth.

Lehmann's call-up came just a day after he was named in the Test squad for next month's tour to South Africa.

He has been in prolific one-day form for South Australia this season, scoring 361 runs in seven games at an average of over 72.

"It's been a pretty good 24 hours for me.

"The news of my inclusion in the Test squad to tour South Africa and Zimbabwe was exciting on its own.

"To know that I will be joining the one-day international team for the Perth leg of the VB Series is icing on the cake," he commented.

World Cup winner

Lehmann has played 69 one-day internationals for Australia, but was dropped after scoring only three runs in three innings in India last year.

He has scored 1,727 runs in total, however, including two centuries and 10 fifties, and hit the winning runs in the 1999 World Cup final against Pakistan in England.

"I would think that if they've made the change, they've got in mind that they're going to play him over there (in Perth)," said South Australia coach Greg Chappell.

"How they're quite going to fit him into the side I'm not sure, but I hope he gets the chance."

Lehmann was one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year in 2001 and also helped Yorkshire win the County Championship.

Australian one-day squad: Steve Waugh (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Michael Bevan, Andy Bichel, Jason Gillespie, Ian Harvey, Brett Lee, Darren Lehmann, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, Shane Warne, Mark Waugh.
