Pollock concedes crown
Australia celebrate another wicket
Australia wrapped up the series in Melbourne
South African captain Shaun Pollock admitted that Australia are the undisputed champions of world cricket after his team failed to make an impact in the series.

A demoralised South Africa were thrashed by nine wickets in Melbourne to lose the three match series 2-0 with one Test to play.

Pollock said he was disappointed with his side's performance in the two Tests.

"It was billed as the the championship of Test cricket and we've definitely been disappointing," he said.

Whoever is going to beat us is going to have to play very well
Steve Waugh

"We had high hopes when we came to Australia but at the end of day we've been beaten by a better team. We were inferior in all parts of the game.

"We really wanted it badly. We have got a talented bunch but I don't think we did ourselves justice. I think we did put too much pressure on ourselves.

"Their rating of the number one team is totally justified."

Australian captain Steve Waugh praised his side for pressuring South Africa into submission.

Momentum

He said Australia are now looking for a 3-0 whitewash in the series before they resume the battle in South Africa.

And Waugh forecast that it would be some time before Australia relinquish their number one status.

"We've had them under pressure constantly and it's always hard to produce the goods in that situation," Waugh said.

"It was pretty comprehensive, this victory. We've got the momentum going our way. We're playing good cricket and we'd like to think we can win it three-nil.

"We're proud of being the number one side. It's something we've worked hard to achieve and we didn't want to let it slip easily.

"Whoever is going to beat us is going to have to play very well. We're not going to lay down and we're not going to be beaten easily."
