Zimbabwe have named former all-rounder Kevin Curran as their new coach, replacing Phil Simmons after a disastrous series against New Zealand. Last week, Zimbabwe lost the first Test to New Zealand by an innings and 294 runs inside two days.
And on Wednesday, the Kiwis claimed victory by an innings and 46 runs on day three of the second Test.
"We expected a sea-change in the second Test match," said Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Ozias Bvute.
"As custodians of the game on behalf of the nation, we cannot but be accountable,"
According to a ZC statement Simmons, who was not immediately available for comment, "has been reassigned to other coaching duties".
The former West Indies batsman had held the job since last September when Geoff Marsh returned to Australia in the middle of a row between ZC and leading players.
Curran is a former right arm fast-medium bowler and middle order batsman who represented the country at the 1983 and 1987 World Cups.
A regular in county cricket with Gloucestershire and Northants from the mid-1980s until his retirement in 1999, Curran went on to coach Namibia before returning home.
Has little time to turn the side's fortunes around before next week's one-day international series involving India and New Zealand.
