A row between West Indies coach John Dyson and Leicestershire has prompted the county to turn down the tourists' request to use its Grace Road surface. On Wednesday the game between the two sides ended in a draw, but the fall of 14 wickets on the opening day, prompted criticism from the Windies heirarchy. In turn the Windies' request to use the wicket on Thursday has been rejected. "I don't think it's appropriate after his comments," said Leicestershire chief executive David Smith. "For me it's been an excellent game of cricket over three days and been an excellent cricket wicket and the very fact a young side were able to battle it out on the final day shows that it's been a good batting wicket throughout," added Smith.  | 606: DEBATE |
"They will be practising in the nets and they are very welcome, but I didn't take too kindly to the comments." Former Australian batsman Dyson responded by saying there was "no problem", adding: "There's a nice big field out here so I'm sure we'll find something to do." As Wednesday's game petered out to draw Dyson gave spinner Sulieman Benn an extended work-out. The left-arm spinner bowed unchanged from before lunch until midway through the afternoon session for 24 overs as Leicestershire progressed from trailing by 87 overnight to finish 100 runs ahead on 238-6 when the two sides agreed on a draw. The tourists' second warm-up match is against Essex at Chelmsford and the Windies will be boosted for this weekend's game by the arrival of star batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who is due to link up with the rest of the squad on Friday. Jerome Taylor is set to join the tour early next week and will be available for the four-day match against England Lions at Derby starting on 30 April. Captain Chris Gayle and paceman Fidel Edwards are playing in the Indian Premier League and are set to join the squad on 2 May, just four days before the first Test at Lord's.
