Morton brought up his century with a strike rate of over 80

Runako Morton returned to form with a magnificent double century as the West Indies put their injury problems behind them and turned the screw on the MCC.

Fidel Edwards and Darren Sammy starred with the ball in the morning session, taking three wickets as a young MCC side were dismissed for 260.

And, after the early loss of Devon Smith (16), Morton took up the baton.

The number three struck 201 off 246 balls, including 27 fours and five sixes, to help the tourists to 340-4.

It was a welcome return to form for the middle-order batsman, who has scored just 44 runs in three innings against England so far this summer.

Opener Smith was the first man out for the tourists, bowled by Ruel Brathwaite, before Daren Ganga and Morton put on 168 for the second wicket.

Ganga made a 100-ball 47 before he fell to Robbie Williams and Sylvester Joseph contributed a 98-ball 41.

And, as they dropped anchor, Morton blazed away at the other end with some fantastic hitting that is sure to put him in a good frame of mind ahead of next week's third Test at Old Trafford.

His 268-minute stay, in which he offered just one chance - dropped by Brathwaite at mid-on off Simon Butler when he was on 139 - was finally ended when he was trapped lbw by Butler.

"The main team objective was to get past the MCC's score and I was able to contribute to that," said Morton.

"It was a good day for the team overall. I'm happy with my innings and pleased to get a double hundred.

"I think owed this to the team. It was long overdue for me to get a double. Hopefully this knock will do the job for me when we get to Manchester against England."

Edwards pressed his claims for a third Test call-up with three wickets

Earlier, it was confirmed that Ravi Rampaul is definitely out of the Old Trafford Test because of a torn muscle in his groin, though the Windies have yet to make a decision on Gayle's (rib) participation.

However, on the field, Edwards and Sammy found good pace and bounce to wrap up the innings in the first morning, with Jermaine Taylor (5-43) given the morning's rest.

Mali Richards, son of Windies legend Viv, was the first to go, Dwayne Bravo taking a stunning diving catch over his shoulder at deep mid-wicket off the bowling of Edwards.

Sammy then had Brathwaite, attempting to turn the ball to leg, caught at backward point before Williams edged Edwards to slip.
