Signing autographs was as far as it got for the West Indians

West Indies' preparations ahead of the first Test against England on Thursday suffered a further blow when their match against Somerset was abandoned.

Having gained valuable batting practice in reaching 237-4 on day one, Runako Morton and Shiv Chanderpaul on form, days two and three were washed out.

It meant the touring party had to be content with working in the indoor nets in the Centre of Excellence.

Meanwhile, Morton, Daren Ganga and Chris Gayle all have minor injuries.

However, the West Indies camp says the three batsmen are all fit to play at Lord's.

The most dramatic of those injuries was Ganga's, who was hit on the helmet by a delivery from fast bowler Daren Powell in the Taunton net.

A cut on his forehead above his left eye required seven stitches at hospital. The helmet itself caused the cut - Powell was not hit directly by the ball.

Morton (thigh strain) and Gayle (bruised hand) are thought to be less serious.
