One-day international, Dublin: West Indies 82-0 (14.3 overs) bt Netherlands 80 (31.2 overs) by 10 wickets

Captain Chris Gayle hit an unbeaten 51 as the West Indies wasted no time in beating the Netherlands in the first match of the quadrangular series.

Dwayne Smith's 4-8 from six overs saw the Dutch collapse from 54-4 to 80 all out in Dublin, with Worcestershire teenager Alexei Kervezee making 22.

Gayle then blasted six fours and a six as he raced to his fifty in 42 balls.

Devon Smith cracked 29 at the other end and victory was sealed in 14.3 overs with the whole game lasting 45.5 overs.

After Dutch skipper Jeroen Smits won the toss, Kervezee got his side off to a fine start when he crashed Daren Powell to the boundary but after that Powell and Ravi Rampaul combined to exert a vice-like grip.

It was the impressive Rampaul who made the breakthrough in the fourth over when he trapped Tom de Grooth plumb lbw.

The Netherlands had limped to 34-1 in the 11th over when Rampaul struck again, trapping former Sussex batsman Bas Zuiderent leg before for 10.

Youngster Kervezee continued to show his potential with successive fours off Powell but the West Indian paceman had the last laugh when he drew a thin edge and Denesh Ramdin did the rest behind the stumps.

It was all one-way traffic for the rest of the innings and the gulf in class was exposed when Gayle and Smith set about the Netherlands bowlers.
