Deadline moved in Windies pay row
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Captain Chanderpaul resigned as captain a fortnight ago
West Indies cricket officials have extended their deadline for players to sign new contracts or be dropped.

But the 18-month-old row could still lead to the West Indies fielding shadow teams, as they did last year against South Africa and Sri Lanka.

After the 21 April deadline passed, it was moved to 3 May.

"Where contracts are not signed, alternative players will be selected," said the West Indies Cricket Board.

West Indies cricket is still reeling from the resignation of captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul a fortnight ago.

The WICB gave a deadline of last Friday to complete central contracts with its top players.

But no agreement was reached between board representative Deryck Murray and players chief Dinanath Ramnarine.

The WICB is expected to offer match tour contracts, separate from the retainer contracts, in an effort to gather a squad for the first one-day international against Zimbabwe in Antigua next Saturday.

Zimbabwe have arrived for seven one-dayers, then India will undertake a tour with four Tests and five one-dayers.

The WICB were due to announce Chanderpaul's replacement last week.
