S Africa leave out Gibbs & Ntini

South Africa have left Herschelle Gibbs and Makhaya Ntini out of their one-day squads to face Zimbabwe and England.

All-rounder Robin Peterson has also been omitted in three changes to the ICC Champions Trophy squad.

Gibbs, 35, has played in 245 ODIs and made more than 8,000 runs while Ntini, 32, has taken 266 wickets in 173.

Uncapped all-rounder Ryan McLaren and seamer Charl Langeveldt, both former Kolpak players, and opener Alviro Petersen come into the one-day squad.

South Africa were knocked out of the Champions Trophy by England in the group stages, despite having the advantage of home support, and lost their status as the world's number one side.

606: DEBATE

South Africa's selection chief Mike Procter said: "It is never easy to leave out senior players, particularly when they are men of the calibre of Herschelle Gibbs and Makhaya Ntini who have given such wonderful service over a long period of time.

"But we also have to keep looking forward and reward those players who are knocking strongly on the door.

"Although we have chosen these squads for the Zimbabwe series as well as the first three matches against England, we are flexible and reserve the right to add other players as we think fit."

The Kolpak ruling allows foreign players to play in English county cricket without being classed as overseas players, using a loophole in European Union law.

McLaren surrendered his Kolpak status at the end of the season after leaving Kent, while paceman Langeveldt's return to international cricket will force him to give up his Kolpak status and leave Derbyshire.

Wicketkeeper Heino Kuhn and batsman Loots Bosman have both been named in the squad for the Twenty20 matches against England.

South Africa will face Zimbabwe twice before taking on England in two Twenty20 internationals and five one-day matches.

Graeme Smith's side will also play four Tests against England in December and January.
