ICC to probe Botha bowling action

Johan Botha
Botha has already served a ban for his bowling action

South Africa spinner Johan Botha could face a second ban after he was reported by match officials for a suspect bowling action against Australia.

Botha took 1-48 during his team's 61-run victory in the fourth one-day international at Port Elizabeth.

Umpires Brian Jerling and Asoka de Silva and third umpire Rudi Koertzen were concerned about his quicker delivery and his 'doosra.'

Botha was suspended for a month in 2006 for an illegal bowling action.

An independent report identified excessive levels of straightening in both his off-break and doosra.

Botha later underwent remedial action and was re-tested.

His action at that time was found to be legal and he was able to resume playing international cricket.

But the International Cricket Council has confirmed they will now seek independent analysis of his action by a member of the their panel of human movement specialists.

South Africa coach Mickey Arthur is confident Botha will be given the green light to bowl again in the near future.

"Johan has been through this process before and was cleared to continue his career and I am confident that this will happen again," he said.

"I don't believe anything major has changed in his action since then but we will obviously respect the process and the outcome."
