Paceman Makhaya Ntini has been named South African Cricketer of the Year. He also scooped the Test Player of the Year gong and the Players' Player of the Year award at a presentation ceremoney on Wednesday in Gauteng.
Ntini, the fourth-ranked bowler in the world, took 58 Test wickets in the 14 matches of the period under review, July 2004 to May 2005.
Skipper Graeme Smith was named one-day Player of the Year, and AB de Villiers Newcomer of the Year.
But the night belonged to Ntini, who in the 11-month period was also South Africa's leading one-day bowler with 34 wickets.
"I have so many people to thank. I don't know where to begin," said Ntini in his acceptance speech.
"Ray Jennings, your passion has been an inspiration. Whenever you told me 'heavy eyes', coach, I knew what you were talking about.
"Thanks for the hard work you put into the team.
"I would also like to thank our fitness team - Adrian le Roux, and physiotherapist Shane Jabaar - and who could forget Goolam Rajah, our wonderful manager."
