Tour match, Canterbury (day two of three, close): Pakistan 360 & 86-1 v Kent 259 Match scorecard
Left-armer Aamer removed four of the top five Kent batsmen |
Mohammad Aamer took five wickets as Pakistan bowled Kent out for 259 to earn a first-innings lead of 101 on day two of their tour game at Canterbury. Having bowled the tourists out for 360 just before the close on Monday, Kent reached 31-0 before losing four wickets for two runs, including three to Aamer. But Joe Denly (63) steadied the ship in partnership with James Goodman, who made 59 on his first-class debut. Pakistan reached 86-1 in their second innings, 187 ahead, by the close. Goodman's fellow debutant Chris Piesley endured a less memorable start to his Kent career as he was caught by Salman Butt off Aamer for a second-ball duck in the early flurry of Kent wickets. As well as Piesley, Aamer claimed the wicket of nightwatchman Matt Coles (12) and James Hockley (0) while Umar Gul accounted for left-hander Alex Blake. Denly reached his 50 from 60 balls with eight fours while Goodman reached the landmark from 111 deliveries with five fours. Their stand of 89 in 20 overs ended six overs after lunch when Denly was cleaned up by a fast straight one from Aamer. Acting captain Azhar Mahmood chipped in with 28 before he holed out to deep square-leg, then Goodman quickly followed for 59, playing on when attempting to drive against Wahab Riaz. Kent's tail wagged a little longer through Mark Lawson (31) and Robbie Joseph (18 not out), but off-spinner Shoaib Malik took the last two wickets to give the visitors a first innings lead of 101. Pakistan lost opener Salman Butt when he padded up to a Mahmood off-cutter to go lbw, but survived through to stumps without further alarm.
